This year, Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday, letting you carry your romance into the weekend without work’s interruption, creating the perfect opportunity for a lovely getaway for two.
Eastern Washington provides multiple destinations for a Valentine weekend. Yakima’s annual Red Wine & Chocolate event runs through the weekend of the 15th, offering access to wineries from across Yakima, Zillah, Prosser, and Red Mountain.
Pass holders will taste exclusive pairings of dark chocolates and wines, library tastings, and V.I.P winery tours not available to the public. You can purchase passes for $30 until February 10th at www.wineyakimavalley.org.
However, making the meal yourself serves as another great way to impress your significant other. The Walla Walla Culinary Institute’s Titus Creek Cafe offers two-hour cooking classes every weekend taught by a different local chef. Chef Jay Entrikin of the Wine County Culinary Institute leads the February 15th lesson. Each class is followed by a wine tasting led by the Center for Enology & Viticulture’s Tom Donahue.
Furthermore, participating Walla Walla wineries will sell artisan chocolates and offer special wine tastings.
