Vacation in Whitefish, Montana

The most inspiring moments come through simple and unexpected discoveries like riding the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park in spring, when the road is serene and reserved for bikers and pedestrians. Nestled next door is the vibrant mountain town of Whitefish, Montana, which offers miles of paved, quiet country roads and an expansive network of single-track mountain-bike trails on the Whitefish Trail or at Whitefish Mountain Resort.

The Whitefish River flows gently from Whitefish Lake through town, under pedestrian bridges and along city parks. Launch a paddleboard or kayak at Riverside Park for a mellow paddle to Whitefish Lake for a picnic at City Beach and an even easier float downstream back to the park. Or take a leisurely stroll on the paved Fish Trails paths as they follow along the river and link downtown with city parks, including the WAG Park for the four-legged members of the family.

The Whitefish Lake Golf Club is the only 36-hole golf course in the area and features all the amenities of a world-class resort course, featuring exceptional lake and mountain views only minutes from downtown.

After long adventure-filled days, winding down and relaxing couldn’t come easier. Whitefish offers an abundance of world-class dining options, breweries, distilleries and live music. The fare in Whitefish is a delightful surprise due to the range of food choices and chefs who pride themselves on fresh and creative dishes. Whitefish is home to two microbreweries and a distillery, adding a little more “happy” to happy hour.

When you’re ready to put your feet up, sleep will come easy at any one of the numerous welcoming accommodations, whether in town, along the lake, or on the mountain.

Getting to Whitefish is a breeze with direct flights from major cities to Glacier Park International Airport (use airport code FCA), only 15 minutes to downtown Whitefish. Amtrak’s Empire Builder arrives twice-daily at the historic Whitefish Railway Depot. Arriving by car is also easy with roads that traverse through some of the most beautiful landscapes in North America.
