Take advantage of the long ski season at Mt. Bachelor, Oregon

Located just a short 30-minute drive from downtown Bend sits the iconic skiable volcano, Mt. Bachelor. In the heart of the Central Oregon Cascades, the resort records 462 inches of snowfall annually, which blankets over 4,000 acres of skiable terrain, making Mt. Bachelor the sixth largest ski/snowboard resort in North America. Serviced by 12 chairlifts, eight of which are high-speed quads, there is no shortage of fun for everyone. The trail map includes approximately 100 runs, of which 15 percent are rated as easier, 35 percent more difficult, 30 percent most difficult and the final 20 percent extremely difficult.

Although the impressive above stats set Mt. Bachelor apart from most other resorts, it is the spring skiing/riding that makes the mountain a must-visit for snow enthusiasts. Typically receiving new snow through mid-April, Mt. Bachelor’s snowpack stays long into the spring, keeping the mountain open until Memorial Day weekend.

In between spring dumps, the weather up at the mountain is second-to-none. Beautiful spring sunshine and warmer temps make the snow soft and playful for endless fun. When your legs decide they can’t take it anymore, head up to the deck at the West Village Lodge for some delicious food, drinks and stunning views of the mountain basking in the sun.

If a different mountain adventure is what you’re after, pop over to the Nordic Center and check out the expansive network of trails that are groomed daily. The Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center is home to the longest Nordic season in North America and is a great spring activity for the whole family. Rentals are also available at the Nordic Lodge.

Lastly, Springtime is an exciting time at the mountain due to the many events that take place. One peek at Mt. Bachelor’s Events tab on their website will reveal a whole host of events that you don’t want to miss. From competitions and giveaways to a massive four-day festival at the end of April, the Mt. Bachelor event crew knows how to put on a good time.
