Ski Blacktail Mountain, Lakeside, Montana

Less than an hour’s drive from Kalispell in Northwestern Montana, Blacktail Ski Area is a small, family-friendly ski hill that offers visitors an exhilarating day in the snow. Unlike most ski hills, at Blacktail, the lodge is at the top of the mountain. Drive to the top, ski down and ride the lift back up. At the summit, you’ll be greeted with spectacular views of Flathead Lake, Glacier National Park and the mountain ranges that surround the resort. At the lodge, you’ll find all the amenities you need for the day: gear rental and sales, lockers, a cafeteria and a full-service bar & grill.   

The average annual snowfall at Blacktail Mountain is 250 feet, and the top elevation is 6,780 feet; slopes range from beginning to advanced. Farther down the mountain, a Nordic ski area offers groomed trails for cross-country and snowshoeing beginning in December.   

There are plenty of lodging options near Blacktail that are close to other attractions as well. If you stay in Kalispell, you’ll have access to great restaurants, museums and much more. Smaller communities, such as Lakeside, also have plenty to offer.
