With the hills surrounding scenic Lake Chelan blanketed in snow and the cities of Chelan and Manson rolling out the welcome mat, Lake Chelan Winterfest is the place to be for an exciting celebration of all things winter. Festivalgoers enjoy ice sculptures, fireworks, live music, an ice slide and much more. Add to the experience the lodging, eateries and wineries for which the Lake Chelan communities have become famous, and you have the makings of a festival you’ll want to return to every year.
Winterfest is an event that’s fun for the whole family. Check out the whimsical ice sculptures and watch ice carvers in action. Slide down the ice slide. Groove to live music concerts. Watch dazzling fireworks shows over the lake. Browse the vendor market to find unique items you can’t live without. Participate in a scavenger hunt. Go for a ride in an apple bin (after all, this is apple country).
The main events take place over two long weekends, January 13 to 15 and January 20 to 22, but the festival is officially running from January 13 to 22, with some activities, like ice sculpture viewing and the scavenger hunt, running the entire time.
Many of the Winterfest activities and events are free, but you can gain access to special activities and venues, such as the Ice Bar, with Winterfest Buttons, on sale at the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce office.
Lake Chelan is a popular all-season destination, with each season bringing its own magic. Lake Chelan Winterfest takes advantage of the best of winter in this scenic region. But beyond the festival, winter outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the area’s outstanding cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, tubing and snowmobiling at nearby Echo Ridge or a number of designated Sno-Parks.
A popular activity any time of year is wine tasting. The Lake Chelan wine region is home to more than 30 wineries producing world-class wines. Plan a wine tasting excursion at lakechelan.com/drink/wine-tasting.
