In historic Albany, Oregon, you can revel in the sights and sounds of an old-fashioned holiday celebration. Tour festively decorated homes, go caroling on a horse-drawn wagon, take a carousel ride and share your wish list with Santa or shop for the perfect gift. Regardless of what Jack Frost may bring, the bells will ring: doorbells, church bells, jingle bells, and sleigh bells all signifying the season of sharing.  

The Christmas Parlour Tour has become an Albany tradition for those who want to escape the flurry of the hectic holiday season. The 43rd Annual Christmas Parlour Tour will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11 and offers a peek inside several historic homes and buildings decked out for the Christmas season. A vintage trolley and horse-drawn wagon will be running during the tour, stopping at designated locations along the way. Tickets are now on sale. 

Here are a few more fun and exciting activities awaiting you this holiday season: 

The Downtown Twice Around Parade and Community Tree Lighting Ceremony: Sunday December 4. This fun event rolls through the streets of Historic Downtown Albany beginning promptly at 5:00 p.m., rain or shine. The parade route circles downtown twice before stopping at the community Christmas tree, where burn barrels warm hands and carolers encourage everyone to join in the singing of traditional songs.  

Christmas Storybook Land: Dec. 2-16. Visit Christmas Storybook Land to relive your favorite childhood nursery rhymes, fairy tales and family movies in a magical indoor walk-through forest.  Entry is free, donations for the local food bank are gladly accepted.  

Caroling with the Monteith Historical Society: Dec. 9, 16, 17, 18. Ride a horse-drawn wagon through Albany’s beautiful historic districts while singing Christmas carols. This is a popular event year after year.  

Shop & Dine Historic Downtown: Throughout the season, you’ll find great food and special gifts. Albany is proud of the many local, independent retailers who offer unique products. Many items are handcrafted and made in the Northwest. Restaurants offer special treats so be sure to fortify yourself for a great season of shopping!
