While many towns keep structural monuments to their younger days, few towns manage to completely capture an ambiance of antiquity throughout their entire town while still retaining modern conveniences. Jacksonville, OR does this beautifully, creating the perfect setting for a romantic getaway.
The days in Jacksonville offer visitors plenty do to inside and out of the rugged brick buildings. Downtown’s Britt Garden makes for a perfect spring picnic. Later in the summer, the park hosts the Britt Festival, a marathon musical event showcasing a number of live performances of classical pieces.
Applegate Wine Trail lies just outside the town, providing an excellent opportunity for an afternoon’s wine tasting. Applegate largely specializes in Spanish varietals, such as Tempranillo. These wines hold a flavor which can be easily paired with a variety of dinners, so don’t be afraid to take a bottle to go with your favorite meal.
If you’re staying for the weekend and need to place to spend the night, try to get a night at the Jacksonville Inn. The already popular inn saw national attention when they hosted the President and First Lady in 2004.
