Check surfing off your bucket list or show your expertise in Westport, a city on the Washington coast. Westport has managed to retain its intimate charm and is well on its way toward becoming one of the West Coast’s go-to surf spots.

For those who have never zipped into a wetsuit, surfing can seem daunting. Westport’s surf schools offer patient support for people who are interested in picking up this exciting hobby. The pride in overcoming a fear is only overshadowed by the fun memories on the board.

BigFoot Surf School and Steepwater Surf Shop both offer private and group lessons every weekend of the summer season in Westhaven State Park.

After a long day of riding waves, you’ll need to rest and rejuvenate. Where better to do that than LOGE at the Sands (pronounced like “lodge,” which stands for “Live Outside Go Explore”)? This new addition to Westport’s hospitality scene is a hip paradise, offering private hotel rooms, hostel-style community living, RV and tent camping areas, a performance space, fire pits, indoor and outdoor kitchens and much, much more. They have also embraced the town’s surf culture, partnering with the Surfrider Foundation and offering rentals of soft-top boards, wetsuits and booties on site. If you decide that surfing just isn’t for you, they also have kayaks, bikes and paddle boards available.
